file storage, filesystem

Traakan has been providing enterprise level network attached storage software to storage developers to use in their NAS file systems for over 10 years. Responding to market demand Traakan recently introduced OmniTraak, an unbundled component family that includes a high-performance journaled file system, NFS server, and virtual volume manager. Based on a 10-year history of record performance and stability the OmniTraak family is the first to offer developers enterprise-level filer components for use with most off-the-shelf Operating Systems including FreeBSD, BSD/OS, QNX, Linux, and Solaris. OmniTraak's elegantly simple interfaces were engineered to allow OS porting efforts of less than 8-man-weeks. A port to NetBSD is now available.

History

Founded in 1991, Traakan spent its first 8 years quietly delivering arguably the industry's fastest, full-feature filer software to OEMs competing in the enterprise NAS market. Since inception Traakan has sold over 2,000 NAS packages used to power $20K to $200K filers employed in applications ranging from aerospace CAD systems to maintenance of the space shuttle inventory. The company continues to sell 30 to 40 licenses per month.

In 2000 Traakan began development of FasTraak, which included fault-tolerant, and backup enhancements to its field-proven first generation software. FasTraak features included seamless failover, remote replication, fault-tolerant networking, and a virtual volume manager. FasTraak also included significant performance enhancements to its file system and NFS server that allowed Traakan to post record setting CPU and disk SPECsfs97 benchmark results using off-the-shelf servers. OmniTraak components reflect these feature and performance enhancements.
